About Mel Boucher
I’m Mel, a pet and people photographer based on the border of Nottingham and Derby. I specialise in relaxed, heartfelt images of horses and dogs. I’ve been behind the camera since 2012 and have worked professionally for the past three years, focusing first on horse photography and now expanding into dog studio and outdoor dog photography.
Whether I’m in the studio with a nervous new pup or out in a field with a beloved horse, my sessions are relaxed and unhurried. I’ll gently guide you so you feel comfortable, then step back to capture real moments – soft noses, muddy paws, and all the little details that mean the most to you.
My goal is to create a collection of images that feel like you and your animals: honest, relaxed, and full of personality. Photographs that become keepsakes you’ll treasure for years, not just pictures for today.

FAQs
Do you offer horse photography as well as dog photography in Nottingham?
I am mainly a dog and horse photographer. For dog photography, I offer a choice of studio sessions or outdoor sessions and outdoors for horse photography sessions.
Where is your Nottingham photography studio located?
My home studio is located in Stapleford (NG9), just over five minutes from Junction 25 of the M1. This makes it incredibly easy to reach if you are looking for a photographer in Nottingham, Derby, or the surrounding East Midlands area.
Do you travel for outdoor horse and dog photoshoots?
Yes! While I have a dedicated studio for dog portraits, I love shooting on location. I regularly travel across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicester and Warwickshire for horse photography sessions and outdoor dog portraits. If you have a favourite local park or want the shoot at your own yard, I can come to you.
I’m not sure my dog will behave – can we still have a studio shoot?
Definitely! I love working with a variety of dogs of all different energies and personalities and no specific training is required. I never rush the session and always work with the dog to bring out their personality.
My horse is nervous/won’t stand still – can we still have a photoshoot?
Absolutely! Having handled horses for many years, I understand their behaviour. We never rush the session; I work at your horse’s pace to ensure they are relaxed and I have plenty of tricks to get those perfect “ears forward” shots!
How long does a typical photography sessions last?
Studio sessions last around 45 minutes, outdoor sessions last around an hour. I make sure to give dog, horses and children plenty of breaks and aim to always keep it relaxed and fun.
How long after the shoot will I see my images?
I know how exciting it is to see the results! Your images will typically be ready within 2 weeks of your session.
Can I book a consultation call to find out more information?
Of course! It’s a big decision. I offer free, no obligation, consultation calls where we can talk through your ideas and I can talk you through my approach, the pricing options and what to expect on the day. These are done virtually, so you don’t have to visit in person and can be booked online – online consultation booking.
